Week of Prayer 2010
2 Chronicles 7:14
“…If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.â€
The week of prayer is intended to be a time for the LCF family to seek after God at the start of a new year, remembering that it is more important what we are becoming than what we are doing. The format this year will be similar to last year. Each day will have a particular theme and a service in the evening for us to gather and pray corporately along that theme. Prayer is not an optional part of our fellowship. It is far more than encouraged among our membership – it is expected. This, not from our own desires, but from the will of God as revealed in scripture. Please pray along with us each day through these themes. As well chose at least two (2) of the 7 pm. meetings to attend.
SUNDAY:Â THE MISSION
We are called to help people discover the fullness of life in Christ. This first day of prayer will focus on the reaching of lost people for Christ. Think about the barriers that need to be broken. Spiritual strongholds to come down. The names and faces of people who don’t know Jesus.
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance†(2 Peter 3:9).
MONDAY:Â THE WORKERS
In a sequel to Sunday, this day focuses on the workers that are in the harvest field. People working week after week in the food bank. People at LCF who are reaching out to their neighbours. Missionaries who have dedicated their lives to the mission. And of course, praying for more workers to go out into the fields.
“He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field†(Luke 10:2).
TUESDAY: LEADERS
God has gifted and called certain people to tackle the responsibility of leadership both within our church and our nation. Leadership is well acknowledged as a pivotal role in the success of any missional endeavour and therefore comes under strategic attack of the enemy. On this day, pray for your leaders: from your local church board members and pastors to the prime minister of Canada.
“Paul and Barnabas appointed elders for them in each church and, with prayer and fasting, committed them to the Lord, in whom they had put their trust†(Acts 14:23).
WEDNESDAY: YOUTH & CHILDREN
One of our core values is a preserving marriage and the family. No one questions that it is under spiritual attack in our culture. Our youth and children are God’s strategy for continuing the work of the mission and the enemy is working overtime to thwart our efforts. Praying for the efforts at LCF in our kids and youth ministries, our families, and the youth and children of our community.
“Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour†(1 Peter 5:8).
THURSDAY:Â OUR COMMUNITY (Prayer Walk)
Last year many people braved the cold and windy weather to walk about key areas of our city. This year we are going to brave an evening walkabout. Start at the Church at 7 pm for a devotional and to get organized and then out to various parts of our community to walk and pray. Each physical structure reminding us of the many needs in our city.
“Also seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper†(Jeremiah 29:7).
FRIDAY:Â EMBRACE
This year we will end the week of prayer with a night of worship at the Church. A chance to come and sing songs of praise. Leaving the petitions in the hands of our might God, we will gather and extol his greatness. Informal and with little worry about any program. Sitting, standing, kneeling as deemed needed.
“Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘This is what the LORD says: Let my people go, so that they may worship me’ â€â€ (Exodus 8:1)
